Yoga Gear Review - Yoga Socks & Yoga Mat

This past weekend I traveled to Lake Ozark, MO to spend the holiday weekend with my in-laws. This entire summer I've made it a habit to do a drop-in hot yoga class while in town. There is a great yoga studio in Stonecrest Mall call Integrity Dance and Yoga that offers class at 8:30 and 10:00am on Saturdays if you are ever in the area.

Anyway, this was a perfect chance to try out my new yoga socks I'd recently purchased, Mary Jane style socks by Gaiam. The socks felt a little funny at first when I put them on since I'd not used them before, but I quickly adjusted and liked them. The socks have grips on the bottom and it made doing some of the poses easier. I also liked that the tips of my toes were still exposed for extra grip and being able to connect with the floor. My feet did get a little hot, but the class was 'hot yoga' and the room was heated to 98*. I don't foresee any issues in a normal temperature yoga class.

I had my trusty yoga mat as well. I've had that mat for a while, and really like it. While it is thin, it does roll up nicely, and hasn't snagged on anything. My husband and boys recently purchased a thicker one for me as a gift, but after only 3 uses it had snagged horribly, and I took it back.

What yoga mat do you use? Have you tried yoga socks? What are your thoughts on them? Have you used a yoga block before?
